Kia Sportage Restyled – Light Hybridization Comes to the Catalog
Less than three years after the arrival of the fourth generation of Sportage, Kia already presents its restyled version. On the program, no big innovations in terms of aesthetics but a major evolution under the hood. An understandable strategy on the part of the Korean brand that intends to surf the good momentum of its bestseller that has passed all the same 131’000 copies last year in Europe alone. A keen eye will notice some minor aesthetic changes including a new four-point light signature on the front and the slightly reworked shield design. Already it was given a false appearance of Porsche Macan, but with this new four-point light signature, the Sportage gets closer to it a little more.
At the rear, the same program, since the design of additional lights in the shield is reviewed and the wand on the tailgate is removed. Five new body colours add to the catalogue while new wheels also appear. In the cabin, we immediately notice a new 8-inch touch screen, a redesigned infotainment system and a new steering wheel.
You will understand, difficult to distinguish this restyled version of the old model. The essentials are hidden under the hood. Indeed, all new engines now meet the future Euro 6d TEMP standard. While the 1.7-liter CRDi is replaced by a 1.6-liter CRDi in 115 and 136 horsepower, the new 2.0-liter Ecodynamics diesel engine plays the leading role. It is associated with a light hybridization system consisting of an alternator-starter to provide a one-off assistance to the engine, especially during acceleration phases. This helps to lower fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. The restyled Kia Sportage will be marketed during the third quarter of 2018 and presented at the Paris Motor Show.
